How to do a pharmaceutical industry GMP training on video.

Formation GMP Olivier

In the pharmaceutical industry, the norm is GMP For” Good Manufacturing Practices ” or the BPF For” Good Manufacturing Practices” in French. Training staff in GMP is an obligation! But it's boring, painful! To give you an idea, GMP is a bit like the highway code. Without exception, laboratories have a BPF training, mainly in theaters. This training is given every year most of the time. Employees parade for two hours in a room listening to a blah that they only half understand. Not all of them understand the deeper meaning of GMP. Sometimes serious errors with possible impacts on human health are made in the field, and cause the way in which this training is given.

Click here to find out more about how to improve BPF training. So let's see how we changed that for a client through a video BPF training based on micro-learning. Training to a standard through microlearning

In European GMP, there are eleven chapters, for example quality systems, personnel, documentation, equipment, raw materials and many others... Today, a lab gives the same training to all employees, but if you think about it, the message for a manufacturing operator must necessarily be different from that for a quality control manager! Take the example of chapter 2-personnel”, the operator just has to make sure that he is well trained in his tasks before doing them and know that if he is sick, he must not return to the manufacturing area. As a QC manager, he must ensure that all of his staff follows the appropriate training plan. It must make the right personnel allocation decisions. You can see that the message is different!

So how do you want the same training to be adapted to all employees. It's impossible! We therefore proposed to do a BPF video training in the form of microlearning. The aim is for each employee profile to have access to the interpretation of the GMP that concerns them so that the message is clear for them.

Sinfony's recipe for effective video BPF training! The recipe in 5 steps!

We went through five steps:

  • The first step: Identify employee profiles.

We identified 15 different ones, from the members of the management committee to the logistics operator at the raw material store.

  • The second step: Identify the fears and motivations of each profile of collaborators.

To determine the words that will speak to him and that will make the message audible.

  • Third step: Writing video and micro-learning scripts.

One video per profile and per chapter. In our test phase, we selected only four profiles, the most numerous and the most influential and the first four chapters.

  • Fourth step: Shooting videos at the video booth.

This technology without assembly makes it possible to go very quickly into production. videos. To learn more about this technology, follow the link under the video. The recording was done by people from the company.

  • Fifth step: Broadcast.

As the customer did not have an LMS - Learning Management System, it distributed to internal Windows folders.

The balance of the project.

In the end, the field feedback from this BPF video training are good. People enjoy watching their colleagues on video, which is good for social connections. The clarity of the message makes it possible to better make employees aware of the meaning of their job and the importance of this standard. In the long run, it's fewer production errors, and less inspection risks. When the entire kit is complete, the two-hour face-to-face training given to more than 800 employees may be dispensed with.

Points for improvement of our BPF video training.

What could we improve? 15 employee profiles was a lot. Trying to reduce 7 to 8 would have been good. At no additional cost, the graphic identity of the videos could be improved, by adapting the video background PowerPoint template. But undoubtedly the most important improvement would be the use of an LMS with the possibility of gamifying, or gamifying, this training in addition to the videos. But that's another story that we'll talk about in another video...
